Agent Carter Season Finale Review

Marvel and ABC decided to bridge the winter break for Agents of SHIELD by debuting a brand new eight episode series following the life of Peggy Carter.

Agent Carter picks up where the events of Captain America: The First Avenger leaves Peggy Carter, working for the SSR.

The first season of Agent Carter came to a close Tuesday night with the premiere of the eighth episode "Valediction."

The season finale of Agent Carter wrapped up the SSR's hunt for Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper) and Peggy Carter's hunt on Leviathan's operation.

After Stark returns to America, he offers his services to the SSR to help them stop Ivchenko (Ralph Brown), also known as Fenhoff, and Dottie's (Bridget Regan) plan to release Stark's anger gas, Midnight Oil, over Times Square.

Ivchenko and Dottie kidnap Stark and use him to finish their plan. Peggy, Jarvis (James D'Arcy), Jack Thompson (Chad Michael Murray), and Daniel Sousa (Enver Gjokaj) go after the two villains to stop the attack.

Following a great duel between Peggy and Dottie that ended with Dottie being kicked through a window and badly injured, Sousa captures Ivchenko and sends him to prison.

One of the final scenes of the season came with just a few minutes left in it between Jarvis and Peggy. James D'Arcy and Hayley Atwell delivered a heartfelt scene that encompassed their relationship on the show. Seeing Jarvis and Peggy's kind and tearful exchange was a great moment from a very good season and finale.

Peggy also got a gift from Jarvis, the last remaining sample of Captain America's blood. Following a previously heartfelt speech by Peggy about moving on, she does what she must do to move on from the death of her former love. Pouring the blood into the river, forever destroying any chance at duplicating the super soldier serum.

The first season of of Agent Carter was by all means a success and it would not be surprising to see Marvel and ABC renew the series for a second season next winter.

Agent Carter EP 7 Review

It's hard to believe but Marvel's newest series Agent Carter is almost over. Last night "Snafu," the seventh episode of the series, premiered and set up what should be an exciting and revealing season finale. After the SSR captured Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), they began their questioning to discover the real motive behind Peggy's actions.

After a long investigation led by Agent Sousa (Enver Gjokaj), he and the SSR were able to get Peggy into custody. Sousa, Chief Roger Dooley (Shea Whigham), and Jack Thompson (Chad Michael Murray) each took turns questioning Peggy, but she would not break.

Peggy's questioning came to an end after a surprise visit from Jarvis (James D'Arcy). He handed Dooley a signed confession from Howard Stark, that was actually a fake. Dooley decides to fire Peggy once Stark gets back on US soil.

The SSR turned against Peggy and began seeking advice from Dr. Ivchenko (Ralph Brown) and his "magic" ring. Ivchenko became close to Dooley and influenced him to cooperate with his and Leviathan's plan.

Peggy became aware of Leviathan's plan and confessed everything about what she has been up to for the last few months to Dooley, Sousa, and Thompson.

The episode took a sour turn when Dooley was found in a heat jacket with no way to turn it off. The jacket turned into a bomb once it had achieved a high enough temperature. Dooley sacrificed his life to save the life of his agents.

"Snafu" brought back the Peggy and Jarvis relationship after the two did not share much screen time the past few weeks. The dialogue and witty banter back and forth has been one of the best dynamics of Agent Carter all season. It was also nice to see Enver Gjokaj and Chad Michael Murray share screen time and see a relationship that was very broken at the beginning of the season get closer as the finale approaches.

Bridget Regan also deserves credit for a great performance as her creepy portrayal of Dottie. Getting to see her and Hayley Atwell share screen time next week should be great. Dottie also starred in one of the most memorable stunts of the show during her staircase falling scene.

Agent Carter EP 6 Review- Peggy's Kissed Into Custody

With only two episodes remaining before the first season of Agent Carter, Peggy is being tested more than ever and plot points are being fully formed. This week's episode has Peggy running from the SSR and Leviathan.

As the first season of Marvel's newest hit comes to a close, the SSR and Dottie (Bridget Regan) close in on Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell). 

Leviathan has been a problem for Peggy and the rest of the SSR since the beginning of the season. Now, we know that Dottie is working for Leviathan after being trained in the Black Widow program as a child.

Dottie is not the only one with Leviathan connections that is in the picture. After their trip to Russia, Peggy invited a Russian scientist to join the SSR. He has shown that his intentions are much different than Peggy thought. He went so far to order Dottie to kill her.

Daniel Sousa (Enver Gjokaj) got himself enough information to get a warrant for the arrest of his colleague, but Peggy would not go down without a fight. And a kiss.

Peggy was able to defeat four SSR agents, including Jack Thompson (Chad Michael Murray), and escaped to her apartment and found refuge with Angie (Lyndsy Fonseca), the best friend any person could ever ask for.

Angie was able to get the SSR off of Peggy's trail, but neither of them expected they'd have to deal with Dottie. The dangerous Dottie used a move that we had not yet seen and did not expect, a kiss. Dottie wore lipstick laced with a chemical to make Peggy become unconscious.

It did not end the way Dottie wanted as the SSR swooped in and took Peggy into custody, where tempers are sure to rise and friendships truly tested.

Agent Carter EP 5 Review

Since the premiere of Agent Carter it was obvious the focus would be on the mistreatment of Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) by the SSR. She has been delegated to the coffee girl, until now.

When the previously captured typewriter started writing a new message in Chief Dooley's (Shea Whigham) office, the SSR went into a frenzy trying to figure out what the message could mean. Peggy saves the day by realizing the message was coordinates located in Russia.

As they travel to Russia and team up with the Howling Commandos, they stumble upon the Black Widow training program. The mission proves to fellow SSR agent Jack Thompson (Chad Michael Murray) that Peggy is capable of much more than getting a cup of coffee.

Before the team left for Russia, Daniel Sousa (Enver Gjokaj) accidentally catches a revealing glimpse at Peggy. He realizes Peggy and the mysterious blonde he's been investigating are the same person.

While Peggy is at the old Black Widow program, a former trainee is sneaking around her life. Dottie (Bridget Regan) steals the key to Peggy's apartment and snoops around her place. Her intentions are unclear but her mission this episode was really figuring out who Peggy Carter is.

The episode also featured a change in perspective that has been needed, and overdue. Thompson has been the main culprit at undermining the importance and role that Peggy has at the SSR since the series started. That mentality shifted during the end of the episode after Peggy lead and protected the team through Russia. 

We know that the transition from SSR to SHIELD is on the horizon for Peggy Carter but she will need other agents to join her and trust her. This episode started to pave the way for Thompson to make that transition while also diminishing the trust Sousa had. Peggy also recruited a Russian scientist to join the SSR and he could potentially make the transition to SHIELD as well. This move brings up the question of if that man is HYDRA and if not, then it is just the beginning of Russian scientists being brought on board, with some secretly belonging to HYDRA.

Agent Carter returns next week with episode 6 "A Sin to Err." The synopsis for episode 6 is "Peggy discovers the shocking truth about Leviathan but doesn't realize that her true enemies are even closer than she imagined. Meanwhile, Sousa is close to confirming the truth about Peggy and may just put her in the crosshairs of the SSR." Check out the promo for the episode below!
