8 Marvel Mini Series Ideas

Marvel's latest project, Agent Carter, came to a close this week following an emotional finale. While the finale was enjoyable and wrapped up the missions that Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) and the rest of the SSR ventured on in the first season, the show likely did not meet expectations that Marvel had.

The season finale dropped to a season low 1.4 rating and only managed 4 million viewers. Not the kind of results that Marvel expected.

Agent Carter was a good way to fill the winter break of Agents of SHIELD. The latter has had a remarkable turn around following the tie in to Captain America: The Winter Soldier and has continued that momentum with a very good second season.

Agents of SHIELD has a lot of problems the team needs to solve and is heading down an inhuman path that should provide stories for many more seasons. Agents of SHIELD has the ratings, viewers, and story telling to deserve a third season and it should only be a matter of time before Marvel officially renews it.

However, Agent Carter does not have the same numbers to make a second season an absolute must for Marvel and the MCU. There are lots of different stories that deserve to be told and an eight episode arc similar to Agent Carter's could be a great way to tell those stories.

Below are 8 Potential Marvel Mini Series.

Hawkeye
Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) has been an underutilized character in the MCU to this point in time. After being Loki's zombie in The Avengers, he is set to have a bigger impact in the summer blockbuster Avengers: Age of Ultron. Just how big his role will be remains to be seen but the fact of the matter is that there is no Hawkeye movie on the horizon and even with a possible, yet unconfirmed, role in Captain America: Civil War, he is a character that deserves a larger role.

Making a TV show based around Hawkeye and a small group of former SHIELD specialists protecting the world is best for all parties involved. Getting Jeremy Renner to sign on for an eight episode mini series might be tough with his busy movie schedule but it is not impossible. This would also help build a larger team around Coulson and would allow for small crossover potential, but a larger global scale to stop all of the threats that HYDRA and SHIELD's other enemies pose.
Black Widow
Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) has been a fan favorite since her debut in Iron Man 2. She is a beautiful, witty, and butt-kicking woman in the Marvel universe and, just like Hawkeye, she has a larger story to tell.

Ideally, an origin story would be best for Black Widow and Marvel has already laid the foundation for such a story. A sub plot of Agent Carter was introducing the Black Widow Program and showing Dottie (Bridget Regan) become the first "Black Widow." This series could follow that story and show Natasha Romanoff before she joined SHIELD. This would provide more back story on a prominent Avenger and could show her wrestle with her morals. It could also provide a season finale featuring Hawkeye's mission to take her out, changing his mine, and her decision to join SHIELD.
Budapest
This series is a combination of the previous two but follows a completely different story. Whatever happened at Budapest clearly had some major ramifications for Black Widow and Hawkeye, as it has been mentioned a few times in the MCU.

Being able to see the journey Hawkeye, Black Widow, and other SHIELD agents take to get to Budapest and what happened there would be a truly worthwhile experience and journey. It was also provide back story for two Avengers and their relationship.

Agent 13
Captain America: The Winter Soldier introduced the world to Peggy Carter's niece Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp). Sharon, formerly Agent 13 of SHIELD, joined the CIA following the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Sharon is a very interesting character and getting an actress like Emily VanCamp was not for a small appearance. It would also give Marvel a chance to continue with a female lead series.

VanCamp currently stars in her own show Revenge which is also on ABC, so she has the ability to lead her own show in the Marvel universe. The plot of the show would be interesting and could follow her life post Captain America: The Winter Soldier and her job as a member of the CIA. There is future crossover potential then with Agents of SHIELD which would likely appeal to audiences.

Agent Carter: Winter Soldier
This show would only happen if Marvel and ABC decided to re-up Agent Carter and follows a story that was referenced in the season finale. In the final scene of the season, it is revealed that Dr. Ivchenko (Ralph Brown) will share a jail cell with veteran HYDRA member Arnim Zola (Toby Jones). One of Agent Carter's show-runners, Michele Fazekas, took to Twitter to confirm that Zola wanted Ivchenko to help with the Winter Soldier Program.

This would be a logical step for the series, should it continue, and would give it a real purpose in the MCU. Sebastian Stan, who plays the Winter Soldier, originally signed on for a nine picture deal with Marvel. It is possible that Marvel and Sebastian could renegotiate his contract to remove a movie in place of starring in a TV series.

This season would focus on the beginning of the Winter Soldier Program and get to see Steve Roger's former love interest, Peggy Carter, and his best friend, Bucky Barnes, go head to head. The show could also deal with the eventual role Barnes plays in the death of Howard Stark.
Original Avengers
This could be a continuation of Agent Carter with Peggy Carter serving as a Nick Fury type role. She would assemble a group of crime fighters that included a young Nick Fury, Hank Pym, Janet Van Dyne, as well as a few "new" heroes. This would give the audience a chance to see some of the original superheros who have ties to current characters in the MCU.

We know that Ant-Man will feature a flashback sequence or two that features Peggy Carter, an older Howard Stark, a young Hank Pym, and possibly the original Wasp, Janet Van Dyne. This series could pick up after those events and give us a proper introduction to Nick Fury and how he came to the position he is in now.

Howling Commandos
One of the best parts of Agent Carter was the appearance of Dum Dum Dugan and the rest of the Howling Commandos. The Howling Commandos deserve more screen time than they have gotten to this point in the MCU. This series could spin off of Agent Carter but still leave the door open to appearances by Peggy Carter, Jarvis (James D'Arcy), and possibly even Dottie (Bridget Regan).

Lady Sif and the Warriors Three
During Thor, we were all introduced to Thor's close friends and allies Lady Sif (Jaimie Alexander), Volstagg (Ray Stevenson), Hogun (Tadanobu Asano), and Fandral (Zachary Levi). They once again all appeared in Thor: The Dark World and then Marvel recruited Lady Sif to TV with an appearance in season 1 of Agents of SHIELD. The appearance was a big hit among fans, with Marvel deciding to bring Lady Sif back in season 2.

We likely won't see any of these characters till Thor: Ragnarok in 2017 so giving them a six to eight episode mini series this winter would be an easy way for more space adventures. The problem with this series would be having good enough special effects to make the adventures and planets these four warriors go on believable.

Bonus- Nova Corps
This is just a bonus because I think there is a small chance this would even be considered for a TV mini series. Just like a Lady Sif and the Warriors Three series, special effects could be a problem for a show that would be based entirely in space. Marvel would also have to have a lengthy talk with the mastermind of the cosmic universe and director of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise in James Gunn.

This series could give more opportunities for Nova Prime and the rest of the Nova Corps to shine and take care of business on smaller space problems. It could also be used to help set up Richard Rider aka Nova, especially since Gunn has not been very open to the idea of including that fan favorite character in his films.

Marvel Weekly News #14

This was a relatively slow week for Marvel. This will be one of the shorter posts so far. This week's news dealt with a fan favorite speaking out on her willingness to play Captain Marvel, new footage for Agent Carter, Gwyneth Paltrow on her role in Captain America: Civil War, whether or not we will see Nova in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and another possible addition to the cast of Captain America: Civil War.

Emily Blunt Up For Captain Marvel
Emily Blunt has been doing press tours for her upcoming movie Into the Woods. In an interview with ScreenCrush this week, they asked Blunt about her desire to play Captain Marvel in the future movie. Blunt has been a popular fan choice for the role and even she wants to play the part. Blunt said, "If it’s an awesome part, it doesn't matter if it’s a Marvel movie or a tiny movie, I’d be up for it." She went on to say that she has not received any calls for the part so we will just have to wait and see.

New Agent Carter Footage
We are just over a month away from the premiere of Marvel's new television series Agent Carter. Marvel is starting to release more clips to see Peggy Carter in action. Check out the two clips below.
Gwyneth Paltrow Wants Civil War Role
Gwyneth Paltrow has been with Marvel since the very beginning. She has been in Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3, and Avengers. As you can see, she has been in every movie that Robert Downey Jr. has been in. It's unknown if she will be in Avengers: Age of Ultron but it's likely she will be in some capacity. It's hard to picture Tony Stark without Pepper Potts, which brings us to Paltrow's desire to be along side Downey again in Captain America: Civil War. She spoke to DishNation this week about the possibility and said, "My fingers are crossed. I would love to be Pepper Potts again at some point in my life."

No Nova in Guardians 2
The once risky property of Guardians of the Galaxy has turned into a huge hit, thanks in part to director James Gunn. Gunn is now working hard on the sequel and has spoken about his desire for more characters in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. One character that everyone wants to see in the movie is Nova. Unfortunately for Nova and fans of the character, he will not be appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Gunn took to Facebook to confirm this as he responded to a fan question. Gunn said that Nova does not currently serve a purpose to the story, right now.

Maria Hill Could Appear in Civil War
As I was writing this, another rumor popped up saying that Cobie Smulders could return as Maria Hill in Captain America: Civil War. The rumor comes from Spanish sites elmulticine and Cinemax. They both claim that Smulders will in fact return as Maria Hill for the epic Civil War storyline.

Marvel Weekly News #9

This week turned out to be pretty uneventful on the Marvel front unfortunately. Wait, what's that? Oh yeah, it was the exact opposite! Thanks to the work of HYDRA we got our first leaked and official look at Avengers: Age of Ultron! Mockingbird also made her debut in Agents of SHIELD, James Gunn gave some Guardians of the Galaxy 2 news, new director rumors, and a new addition to the Agent Carter cast was announced. With so much news, let's get right to it.

Guardians of the Galaxy Climbs Oversees
Guardians of the Galaxy was once considered to be a huge risk and the potential downfall of Marvel Studios but it has been anything but that. Thanks to the movie finally releasing in China, it has now totaled $739 million in worldwide gross. It now sits as the third highest Marvel Studios behind only the billion dollar club of Iron Man 3 and The Avengers.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Characters
Thanks to the aforementioned success of Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel wasted no time in announcing a sequel. In fact, the made it official before the first movie even came out. James Gunn has been hard at work on the sequel since the day Guardians of the Galaxy came out. This week he confirmed that the core team of Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Groot, and Rocket will all return as well as some other familiar faces. Nebula, Yondu, and Corpsman Dey all should return. He also once again teased the addition of another character to the main roster. Fan favorites include Nova, Adam Warlock, and Moondragon.

Agents of SHIELD EP 5
Agents of SHIELD continued on its strong sophomore season with its 5th episode. You can read our full review of the episode here. It featured the debut of Adrianne Palicki as Mockingbird and gave us a bigger look at Skye's background and father. The episode also saw an uptick in viewers up to 4.7 million and was the number 1 show in the 18-49 male demographic. After the debut of Mockingbird, Marvel released the first image of the official costume.

Avengers: Age of Ultron Trailer Leak
HYDRA may be in hiding but they aren't holding back. This week they got their hands on the first Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer and leaked it early. Marvel was planning on premiering the trailer after next week's episode of Agents of SHIELD. With HYDRA ruining their plans, Marvel had to act quickly to save fans.

Avengers: Age of Ultron Trailer Released
Only hours after the leaked trailer, Marvel officially released the trailer in HD early. While that means they'll have to change their plans for what they're going to do after next week's Agents of SHIELD, they made all fans extremely happy. Check out the trailer and a few screens right here! It featured our first look at the Hulkbuster armor, many different Ultron suits, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in action, and Andy Serkis!
Avengers: Age of Ultron Poster
Marvel wasn't done with the trailer either. They also released the first poster for Avengers: Age of Ultron. It looks almost identical to the first Avengers poster but with an obvious twist on Ultron.

Adam McKay the Director
Adam McKay was at one time in the running to replace Edgar Wright as the director of Ant-Man. He did help re-write the script with the help of Paul Rudd but could not direct because of other projects. Marvel is apparently very happy with his work as they are in early discussions for him direct an upcoming movie. Doctor Strange already has a director and it's unlikely he would direct Thor 3 or an Avengers movie, so what could it be? Black Panther is a possibility but I think him directing a small team up movie would be fantastic. Making a Secret Avengers or West Coast Avengers movie starring Hawkeye, Black Widow, Falcon, and a combination of Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Iron Patriot, Vision, and Mockingbird would certainly draw in a crowd.

New Avengers: Age of Ultron Footage Coming
Since Marvel had to release the first Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer early, they are going to roll out new footage soon. It will start after episode 6 of Agents of SHIELD and then the following week during Marvel's 75th anniversary show.

Lyndsy Fonseca Joins Agent Carter Cast
Marvel continues to add quality actors and actresses to the cast of Agent Carter. Yesterday they announced that Lyndsy Fonseca will join the show as Angie Martinelli. She is an aspiring actress in New York who befriends Peggy and helps her adapt to a world without war.

10 Things We Want in Guardians of the Galaxy 2

Guardians of the Galaxy is officially a hit for Marvel. It had the 3rd highest opening weekend of any movie to come out this year. Marvel knew it was going to be success based off early reactions and wasted no time announcing a sequel at Comic-Con

James Gunn will once again be the master mind for the sequel and revealed via Facebook that he has already started brainstorming on what will happen when Guardians of the Galaxy 2 hits theaters July 28, 2016. Since Gunn has started getting a rough idea on what to put into the movie, I thought I would help him help.

Here are 10 things I want to see in Guardians of the Galaxy 2-

***** Potential SPOILERS for Guardians of the Galaxy to follow *****

1) Introduction to Nova

Richard Rider is one of the characters many fans want included in the Marvel universe. In the comics he joins the Nova Corps after being selected by Rhomann Dey, who is dying. Rhomann Dey was introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy and played by John C. Reilly. He has a past with Thanos and Star-Lord, going so far as dying alongside Star-Lord to defeat Thanos. He is more of an Avengers member than he is one of the Guardians of the Galaxy but his origin could easily be introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy 2

2) Introduction to Adam Warlock

Adam Warlock is one of the most powerful members of the Guardians of the Galaxy in the comics. He was born from a cocoon, much like the one seen in The Collector's possession. Whether he still has it is in question after his collection is now in shambles. If Warlock is on the loose, he could be a big factor in the sequel. He was in possession of the Soul Stone for quite some time in the comics and the Soul Stone is one of the 3 not yet introduced to Marvel's cinematic universe.

3) Bigger Role for Thanos

Thanos is without a doubt coming and so far we have only got a glimpse of who Thanos is. We have heard his voice and have seen his full body look now. Giving him more screen time before he most likely becomes the main villain in Avengers 3 would be very smart. Thanos is one of the most powerful beings in the entire galaxy. Seeing what he can do now without any Infinity Stones would be a good way to show fans how powerful he will become once he has all 6.

4) Deeper Backstories for the Guardians

While Guardians of the Galaxy was fantastic, it still feels like we do not know a lot about these characters pasts. For instance, Rocket Raccoon is obviously still scarred by all the enhancements and surgeries he went through. Getting to see a glimpse of what has happened to him and how he and Groot became partners would be neat. Also getting to see what Drax was like before Ronan killed his family would be a new dynamic.

5) Who is Star-Lord's Father

One thing was made clear at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy. Whoever is the father of Star-Lord is not normal. Ronan and the Nova Corps were astounded when he was able to absorb the Power Stone. Only the strongest and powerful beings in the galaxy can control the power the Infinity Stones contain. Star-Lord is half human and the other half comes from his father who is from an ancient species. His father sent Yondu to retrieve Star-Lord for him but Yondu had different plans. Star-Lord's father is obviously very powerful and wants him back. Finding out who he is could answer some questions. Just a thought of mine as a fan, what if Marvel decides to make Star-Lord the son of..... THANOS! Thanos has regularly had kids with many different species and races, so adding Star-Lord to the mix would be crazy confusing and awesome. Especially when they inevitably meet.

6) Gamora and Nebula Rivalry

It was obvious during their moments of interaction and confrontation that Gamora and Nebula have an intense rivalry. I mean growing up as the daughters of Thanos could not have been easy. Getting a look at what it was like for them growing up would add depth to their characters respectively and give more screen time to Thanos.

7) Another Prominent Female Character

It is obvious that Marvel movies are stuffed with male characters. Even the ones I want to be introduced the most are male but that does not matter. Marvel has two main female characters, Black Widow and Gamora. They are introducing Scarlet Witch in Avengers: Age of Ultron next spring and then Hope Pym, who may become Wasp, in Ant-Man in 2015. Adding another female character to the Marvel universe and more importantly the Guardians team should be a focus. Ms Marvel, Mantis, Moondragon, Nicholette Gold, or Aleta Ogord could all be possibilities.

8) Killer Soundtrack

Normally I am not one to go crazy for the music in a film and most of the time I hardly notice it honestly, but Guardians of the Galaxy was different. The planning and song choices James Gunn put into the soundtrack fit the movie perfectly. I really want another great soundtrack for the sequel. I already bought Awesome Mix Vol. 1 on iTunes and I want Awesome Mix Vol. 2 to be just as good if not better.

9) Cosmo the Space Dog

We got a glimpse at Cosmo when The Collector's collection was destroyed. From what we saw, he wasn't the talking dog with telekinetic powers that we know from the comics. He is currently in Knowhere where he was the head of security in the comics. He is also a regular member of the Guardians of the Galaxy and would be another unique addition to the team.

10) Cameo by an Avenger

This one seems far fetched but remains a possibility, especially depending on how things play out in Avengers: Age of Ultron. The most commonly linked Avenger is Hulk but adding another prominent CGI character doesn't seem likely. If not Hulk, then Iron Man with a space suit or Thor could have a shot at crossing paths with the Guardians. It doesn't have to be a long appearance by one of the members. Just some sort of interaction between them would be cool.
