Sony and Marvel Agree on Spider-Man Deal

When Sony was originally hacked near the end of 2014, many outlets sifted through the information that leaked to see what they could find. The biggest nugget was Marvel and Sony once again discussing a possible deal to bring Spider-Man into Marvel's cinematic universe.

It was not the first time fans had heard rumors of this as there were talks before The Avengers came out that Oscorp Tower could be featured in the New York Skyline. Then rumors swirled of a "Spidey Summit" happening in early January where the likes of Kevin Feige and others from Marvel would sit down with Sony executives to try and finalize the deal.

That deal, is officially done.

Marvel has announced that the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is back under their control.

The new Spider-Man franchise will be overseen by Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal as they reboot the franchise for what will be the third time on screen. The new Spider-Man will first appear in one of Marvel's previously announced films before having his own solo movie co-produced by both studios on July 28, 2017.

With the new Spider-Man set to make an appearance in MCU before his solo movie, Doctor Strange or a small cameo in Captain America: Civil War are the most likely options.

It is clear that this will be a new direction and not carry over any of the previous baggage or story lines from the original Spider-Man trilogy or the last two installments of The Amazing Spider-Man. 

What that means is no Andrew Garfield (sadly) and another new Peter Parker on the way. Marvel and Sony have yet to lock down an actor to play the web slinger but it should be a gig that any actor wants.

Current characters from the MCU have the possibility of appearing in solo Spider-Man movies as well.

Lady Sif Returning to Agents of SHIELD

Marvel's Agents of SHIELD is about to get a second dose of a certain Asgardian warrior. TV Insider is reporting that Jaimie Alexander will reprise her role as Lady Sif in the 12th episode of season 2.

TV Insider claims that this return to Earth will be different for Sif. She will have short term memory loss and battle a mysterious foe "whose superpowers are equal to her own."

"Sif has no idea who Thor is or that she serves a king, and we're going to have fun with that," says executive producer Jeffrey Bell. "It'll give us some much-needed humor in a season that's been full of betrayal and death. Sif can't even recall who she came here from Asgard to stop, but Agent Coulson [Clark Gregg] and his team will try to help her figure all that out."

Agents of SHIELD returns from its winter break March 3rd, with Sif returning a week later on March 10th.

Marvel Weekly News #24

We are getting closer and closer to Avengers: Age of Ultron being released and this week brought us lots of promo art as well as official images for the film. Marvel also added to the casts of AKA Jessica Jones, which started filming this week, and Agents of SHIELD. They gave us our first trailer for their first Netflix original series Daredevil, while showing us a new episode of Agent Carter. We also heard an actor throw his name into the ring to play T'Chaka in Black Panther. Read more about each of these below-

New Age of Ultron Promo Art Surfaces

With just over three months separating the world from seeing Avengers: Age of Ultron, promotional materials are starting to become more and more popular. This week Fathead showed off their products from the film, show casing individual Fatheads for all the films main characters, excluding Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. DCMarvelFreshman from CBM was able to blow the images up for very good looks at each of the characters.

Carrie-Anne Moss Added to Jessica Jones

Marvel has been steadily announcing new members to the cast of AKA Jessica Jones the last few weeks and this week they made another addition. Carrie-Anne Moss has joined the Netflix original series as a mystery character that could have a big impact on Jessica Jones' story. Moss joins Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), Mike Colter (Luke Cage), David Tennant (Kilgrave), and Rachael Taylor (Hellcat).

Official Age of Ultron Photos Released

Besides the promotional art, Marvel should continue to release official images from Avengers: Age of Ultron up until the film's release. They did so this week by releasing 16 Official Age of Ultron Photos.

Lance Reddick Interested in T'Chaka

Since the Marvel universe is continuing to expand, there are hundreds of roles up for grabs. With that in mind, Marvel is also one of the most successful studios in the world right now so many actors and actresses will want to join the fun. This week Lance Reddick told IGN, "I would love to play T'Chaka... if it's an origin story." Reddick is only 14 years older than Chadwick Boseman but it could still be possible.

Agent Carter EP 5

Agent Carter is closing in on the conclusion of its first season. It has been a success for Marvel on seemingly all fronts and they delivered what is most likely the strongest episode yet with "The Iron Ceiling." Check out our full review here.

First Daredevil Trailer

After much anticipation and a 15 second teaser, Marvel gave us our first look at their first Netflix original series Daredevil. The trailer was dark, bloody, and showcased Hell's Kitchen. Watch the trailer and more here.

Luke Mitchell Getting Inhuman

We are less than a month away from the return of Agents of SHIELD and what should be a crazy second half of the season. It's been revealed that the cast had a few Inhumans on it already and now they are getting another one. Luke Mitchell has joined the cast an Inhuman named Lincoln.

AKA Jessica Jones Starts Filming

With Daredevil just 2 months away from debuting, Marvel's second Netflix series officially started filming this week. Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones) was seen in New York shooting scenes for AKA Jessica Jones.

First Daredevil Trailer Arrives

Marvel is just over two months away from the release of their first Netflix original series Daredevil. Daredevil is the first of five original series that will stream exclusively on Netflix and will make it's debut April 10th.

This morning, Marvel gave us our first trailer after releasing a 15 second teaser yesterday afternoon. Check out the trailer as well as some screen grabs from the trailer below!

Agent Carter EP 5 Review

Since the premiere of Agent Carter it was obvious the focus would be on the mistreatment of Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) by the SSR. She has been delegated to the coffee girl, until now.

***** SPOILERS for "The Iron Ceiling" to follow *****

When the previously captured typewriter started writing a new message in Chief Dooley's (Shea Whigham) office, the SSR went into a frenzy trying to figure out what the message could mean. Peggy saves the day by realizing the message was coordinates located in Russia.

As they travel to Russia and team up with the Howling Commandos, they stumble upon the Black Widow training program. The mission proves to fellow SSR agent Jack Thompson (Chad Michael Murray) that Peggy is capable of much more than getting a cup of coffee.

Before the team left for Russia, Daniel Sousa (Enver Gjokaj) accidentally catches a revealing glimpse at Peggy. He realizes Peggy and the mysterious blonde he's been investigating are the same person.

While Peggy is at the old Black Widow program, a former trainee is sneaking around her life. Dottie (Bridget Regan) steals the key to Peggy's apartment and snoops around her place. Her intentions are unclear but her mission this episode was really figuring out who Peggy Carter is.

The episode also featured a change in perspective that has been needed, and overdue. Thompson has been the main culprit at undermining the importance and role that Peggy has at the SSR since the series started. That mentality shifted during the end of the episode after Peggy lead and protected the team through Russia. 

We know that the transition from SSR to SHIELD is on the horizon for Peggy Carter but she will need other agents to join her and trust her. This episode started to pave the way for Thompson to make that transition while also diminishing the trust Sousa had. Peggy also recruited a Russian scientist to join the SSR and he could potentially make the transition to SHIELD as well. This move brings up the question of if that man is HYDRA and if not, then it is just the beginning of Russian scientists being brought on board, with some secretly belonging to HYDRA.

Agent Carter returns next week with episode 6 "A Sin to Err." The synopsis for episode 6 is "Peggy discovers the shocking truth about Leviathan but doesn't realize that her true enemies are even closer than she imagined. Meanwhile, Sousa is close to confirming the truth about Peggy and may just put her in the crosshairs of the SSR." Check out the promo for the episode below!

Marvel Releases 16 Official Age of Ultron Photos

We are now less than three months away from the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron and with that, Marvel has decided to release 16 brand new images.

See each of the new pictures below featuring the Hulk, Ultron, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Tony Stark, the Hulkbuster armor, and Joss Whedon.

Carrie-Anne Moss Added to AKA Jessica Jones

Marvel has just announced that they have added actress Carrie-Anne Moss to the cast of their Netflix original series AKA Jessica Jones. Who Moss will be playing is a mystery right now but was given the description, "Moss plays a no-nonsense woman who could prove a powerful ally to Jessica...if Jessica doesn’t completely alienate her first."

Moss is the most recent addition to a growing cast featuring Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), Mike Colter (Luke Cage), David Tennant (Kilgrave), and Rachael Taylor (Hellcat).

AKA Jessica Jones is set to start production soon with a target release date on Netflix near the end of 2015 or beginning of 2016.

After a tragic ending to her short-lived super hero stint, Jessica Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City.
