Marvel Weekly News #18

It's the holiday season and Marvel decided to give us a few gifts of their own over the holidays. If you missed any of this week's news about the Marvel universe due to the holidays, then look no further. This week's news consists of new information on the upcoming Netflix projects as well as Ant-Man

Daredevil Wraps
Marvel and Netflix formed an agreement just over a year ago to bring four exclusive shows to the online streaming website. The first show on the ballot is Daredevil. It will star Charlie Cox as Matthew Murdock and is being run by Steven DeKnight. This week on twitter, DeKnight announced that they have finished shooting the show. While Daredevil is still without an official release date, it is believed to be coming out in May of 2015. DeKnight said that he cannot comment on the release date, noting that they must finish editing the show in post-production.

RUMOR: Ant-Man Post Credit Scene
This section is strictly a rumor and could potentially be a SPOILER if it is proven true. Starlog Magazine claims to have sources telling them that Ant-Man will have a post credit scene that ties it all the way back to The Incredible Hulk. Their post says that Ant-Man's events will be happening at the same time as the ones in Avengers: Age of Ultron. They say that we will meet a young Thunderbolt Ross in a flashback scene in the movie and that Hank Pym and Ross will reunite in the post credit scene. Starlog Magazine says in their post that this information is from an anonymous party but it doesn't sound too bad.
Marvel Confirms Luke Cage Actor
At the beginning of the month, Deadline ran an exclusive story breaking the news that Krysten Ritter would be Jessica Jones in A.K.A. Jessica Jones. In that story, they also noted that Mike Colter was the favorite inside of Marvel to land the role of Luke Cage. Now, Marvel has confirmed that news. They announced earlier in the week that Mike Colter will be their Luke Cage in the cinematic universe. Luke Cage will first appear in A.K.A. Jessica Jones before leading his own show sometime in 2016.

Ant-Man Trailer Classified
It wasn't too long ago we got to see the first trailer for next year's blockbuster Avengers: Age of Ultron. Now it appears that we will see a trailer for the following Marvel movie Ant-Man sooner rather than later. The first trailer for Ant-Man has been classified and has a run time of 1 minute and 48 seconds. It is possible that the trailer will debut with the series premiere of Agent Carter in just over a week.

Marvel Weekly News #17

The Sony hack continues to bring out new information on a daily basis and this week brought about a few new details about a potential Sony/Marvel deal. This information is not always reliable and will really depend on where it is coming from to figure out if it is true or not. Marvel also had a meeting with a body builder. There were also new images from Daredevil and a poster for Agent Carter.

New Details on Sony/Marvel Deal
Last week our first details of a potential Sony/Marvel deal to work together on Spider-Man came out. This week, more news came out regarding the deal. We have already written a full post about the new details here.

Kai L. Green Joining Marvel?
Marvel has lots of upcoming projects which means there are plenty of characters that need casting. This week, Kai L. Green, a body builder, had a meeting with Marvel. It is possible that Marvel is looking for him to portray someone in Black Panther. We will have to wait and see if this leads to anything.
Agent Carter Poster
With Agents of SHIELD now on its winter hiatus, Marvel is increasing the amount of promotions for Agent Carter. This week we got a new promo poster for the show featuring Peggy Carter, played by Hayley Atwell.
New Daredevil Images
Entertainment Weekly got their hands on some new photos for the upcoming Netflix series Daredevil. The two new photos, which you can see below, feature Charlie Cox as Matthew Murdock in his everyday attire and also his first Daredevil costume.

Marvel Studios May Still Get Spider-Man Back [UPDATED]

Updated December 14-

As the Sony hack continues, more information is being leaked out. Here are some of the bigger stories that have come out of the last few days.

Latino-Review reported on Friday that if/when Marvel and Sony agree on a deal, Marvel is basically reboot the franchise. Again. Marvel Studios is not happy with the way Sony has handled the franchise to this point and want a clean start. This means that they would not bring Andrew Garfield in to play Peter Parker. It's also worth noting that Sony may have already fired Garfield as their Spider-Man after he publicly criticized the way the studio handled The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and skipped a dinner with executives.

Sony also had reportedly been looking at the Russo brothers, directors and writers of Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War, as people they wanted to take over their Spider-Man films. The Russo brothers expressed interest in making a Spider-Man trilogy that was part of the Marvel universe. This would happen after they had wrapped up Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and 2, which they have also reportedly agreed to direct.

Today, reports came out via Screen Gonzo that Kevin Feige will be attending the "Spidey Summit" that Sony will have in January. If this is true, this is the best sign to date that a deal will get done between the two studios. Kevin Feige has made it clear to Sony that as part of any deal they agree upon, he would want Avi Arad out of Sony and have no input on the direction that Spider-Man takes.

Original Post December 10-

Back in October, reports surfaced thanks to HitFix that Sony and Marvel Studios were discussing, once again, how Spider-Man could coexist in the Marvel cinematic universe. While details on the discussions were not released, the conversations were on going for about a month.

With the recent hacking of Sony, pieces of those conversations have become available to the public. The Wall Street Journal Speakeasy got their hands on the conversations and have revealed that the talks stalled after Marvel requested creative control.

Latino-Review went on to do some research of their own. They have heard that Sony turned down a deal that would distribute production costs 60/40, with Sony paying the 40. The deal would land Marvel Studios creative control over Spider-Man such as what the movies plots would be as well as what crossovers would happen.

It appears that the head Sony studio, Sony Japan, is not pleased with the decision made. Latino-Review and Wall Street Journal are reporting that there will be a "Spidey Summit" in January where executives from Sony Japan and Sony Pictures will meet and discuss the future. It appears as though the folks at Sony Japan will do everything in their power to get Marvel Studios to agree on some sort of deal that would give Marvel creative control but allow Sony to still create Spider-Man movies.

If this change does happen, fans will rejoice! Marvel would be getting their most well known and most recognizable character back and into their universe. By Marvel having creative control but having Sony produce the movie, Marvel would only responsible for costs and story ideas.

Starting in 2017, Marvel Studios will produce three movies a year. If Spider-Man is part of the cinematic universe by that point, it would allow for more of Marvel's characters to make more appearances. Sony could produce one Spider-Man film while Marvel roles out Guardians of the Galaxy 2Thor: Ragnarok, and Black Panther. A Spider-Man movie would allow characters such as Ant-Man to make another appearance during Phase 3. Spider-Man would also likely play a huge role in the future Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and 2.

In the more immediate future, if a deal is struck in January, there could be just enough time left to get a super quick cameo in Avengers: Age of Ultron or get some sort of crossover in Captain America: Civil War.

The deal would benefit both parties in big ways. It would allow Marvel Studios to have even more toys to play with while Sony would finally have a property that would make the kind of money they desire. A potential Amazing Spider-Man 3 where Spider-Man goes up against the Sinister Six with the help of Spider Woman would not come close to whatever Marvel has planned. Just imagine, The Amazing Spider-Man 3 where Peter Parker teams up with Ant-Man, Falcon, Quicksilver, and Scarlet Witch to take down the Sinister Six.

While promoting The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies alongside Marvel vets Evangeline Lilly and Lee Pace, Bloom was asked when he will join Marvel and said "never say never." During an interview with MTV UK, Woodley said, “I would love to be in a superhero movie if it was Marvel. Their movies are so much fun to watch. I love how they’re all interconnected.”

At the beginning of September, Al Pacino made headlines when he gave Guardians of the Galaxy a glowing review. He went on to say that he would be interested in a Marvel role. During their meeting they discussed various ideas to get Pacino involved but he did not specify what roles or movies they discussed.

Agents of SHIELD Will Tie In to Age of Ultron

Spider-Man On His Way Back to Marvel
The Sony hack has revealed lots of new stories about Spider-Man and him potentially going back to Marvel. We have already broken down a majority of the news here but new wrinkles have been revealed since then. It has been reported that if Marvel gets Spider-Man back they will basically reboot the entire franchise. Andrew Garfield might have been fired by Sony so they are currently without a Peter Parker. Marvel would like to introduce Parker already with powers and not tell his origin story. Stay tuned as new information becomes available.

Ant-Man Character Names Revealed
A new Ant-Man synopsis was released this week that also shed some light one some supporting characters. The synopsis revealed a new cast member as Jordi Mollà has been cast as Castillo. It also revealed Bobby Cannavale to be playing Paxton, Michael Peña as Luis, Judy Greer as Maggie, T.I. as Dave, David Dastmalchian as Kurt, and Wood Harris as Gale.

Now that Agents of SHIELD is on its winter hiatus, Marvel has announced a new cast member for the second half of the season. Blair Underwood has been added to the cast as Dr. Andrew Garner who just so happens to be Melinda May's ex-husband. What purpose could a doctor have for the show? Maybe he will try to understand the transformation that happened to Raina and "Skye."

Marvel Looking For The Ancient One
Last week Marvel announced Benedict Cumberbatch will play Doctor Stephen Strange in Doctor Strange in 2016. Now, it appears that Marvel is looking to cast Cumberbatch's mentor. Latino-Review is reporting that Marvel is eyeing Morgan Freeman, Bill Nighy, and Ken Watanabe to play The Ancient One.
