8 Marvel Mini Series Ideas

Marvel's latest project, Agent Carter, came to a close this week following an emotional finale. While the finale was enjoyable and wrapped up the missions that Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) and the rest of the SSR ventured on in the first season, the show likely did not meet expectations that Marvel had.

The season finale dropped to a season low 1.4 rating and only managed 4 million viewers. Not the kind of results that Marvel expected.

Agent Carter was a good way to fill the winter break of Agents of SHIELD. The latter has had a remarkable turn around following the tie in to Captain America: The Winter Soldier and has continued that momentum with a very good second season.

Agents of SHIELD has a lot of problems the team needs to solve and is heading down an inhuman path that should provide stories for many more seasons. Agents of SHIELD has the ratings, viewers, and story telling to deserve a third season and it should only be a matter of time before Marvel officially renews it.

However, Agent Carter does not have the same numbers to make a second season an absolute must for Marvel and the MCU. There are lots of different stories that deserve to be told and an eight episode arc similar to Agent Carter's could be a great way to tell those stories.

Below are 8 Potential Marvel Mini Series.

Hawkeye
Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) has been an underutilized character in the MCU to this point in time. After being Loki's zombie in The Avengers, he is set to have a bigger impact in the summer blockbuster Avengers: Age of Ultron. Just how big his role will be remains to be seen but the fact of the matter is that there is no Hawkeye movie on the horizon and even with a possible, yet unconfirmed, role in Captain America: Civil War, he is a character that deserves a larger role.

Making a TV show based around Hawkeye and a small group of former SHIELD specialists protecting the world is best for all parties involved. Getting Jeremy Renner to sign on for an eight episode mini series might be tough with his busy movie schedule but it is not impossible. This would also help build a larger team around Coulson and would allow for small crossover potential, but a larger global scale to stop all of the threats that HYDRA and SHIELD's other enemies pose.
Black Widow
Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) has been a fan favorite since her debut in Iron Man 2. She is a beautiful, witty, and butt-kicking woman in the Marvel universe and, just like Hawkeye, she has a larger story to tell.

Ideally, an origin story would be best for Black Widow and Marvel has already laid the foundation for such a story. A sub plot of Agent Carter was introducing the Black Widow Program and showing Dottie (Bridget Regan) become the first "Black Widow." This series could follow that story and show Natasha Romanoff before she joined SHIELD. This would provide more back story on a prominent Avenger and could show her wrestle with her morals. It could also provide a season finale featuring Hawkeye's mission to take her out, changing his mine, and her decision to join SHIELD.
Budapest
This series is a combination of the previous two but follows a completely different story. Whatever happened at Budapest clearly had some major ramifications for Black Widow and Hawkeye, as it has been mentioned a few times in the MCU.

Being able to see the journey Hawkeye, Black Widow, and other SHIELD agents take to get to Budapest and what happened there would be a truly worthwhile experience and journey. It was also provide back story for two Avengers and their relationship.

Agent 13
Captain America: The Winter Soldier introduced the world to Peggy Carter's niece Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp). Sharon, formerly Agent 13 of SHIELD, joined the CIA following the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Sharon is a very interesting character and getting an actress like Emily VanCamp was not for a small appearance. It would also give Marvel a chance to continue with a female lead series.

VanCamp currently stars in her own show Revenge which is also on ABC, so she has the ability to lead her own show in the Marvel universe. The plot of the show would be interesting and could follow her life post Captain America: The Winter Soldier and her job as a member of the CIA. There is future crossover potential then with Agents of SHIELD which would likely appeal to audiences.

Agent Carter: Winter Soldier
This show would only happen if Marvel and ABC decided to re-up Agent Carter and follows a story that was referenced in the season finale. In the final scene of the season, it is revealed that Dr. Ivchenko (Ralph Brown) will share a jail cell with veteran HYDRA member Arnim Zola (Toby Jones). One of Agent Carter's show-runners, Michele Fazekas, took to Twitter to confirm that Zola wanted Ivchenko to help with the Winter Soldier Program.

This would be a logical step for the series, should it continue, and would give it a real purpose in the MCU. Sebastian Stan, who plays the Winter Soldier, originally signed on for a nine picture deal with Marvel. It is possible that Marvel and Sebastian could renegotiate his contract to remove a movie in place of starring in a TV series.

This season would focus on the beginning of the Winter Soldier Program and get to see Steve Roger's former love interest, Peggy Carter, and his best friend, Bucky Barnes, go head to head. The show could also deal with the eventual role Barnes plays in the death of Howard Stark.
Original Avengers
This could be a continuation of Agent Carter with Peggy Carter serving as a Nick Fury type role. She would assemble a group of crime fighters that included a young Nick Fury, Hank Pym, Janet Van Dyne, as well as a few "new" heroes. This would give the audience a chance to see some of the original superheros who have ties to current characters in the MCU.

We know that Ant-Man will feature a flashback sequence or two that features Peggy Carter, an older Howard Stark, a young Hank Pym, and possibly the original Wasp, Janet Van Dyne. This series could pick up after those events and give us a proper introduction to Nick Fury and how he came to the position he is in now.
http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/marvelmovies/images/2/2b/Howling_Commandos_01.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20120719212850
Howling Commandos
One of the best parts of Agent Carter was the appearance of Dum Dum Dugan and the rest of the Howling Commandos. The Howling Commandos deserve more screen time than they have gotten to this point in the MCU. This series could spin off of Agent Carter but still leave the door open to appearances by Peggy Carter, Jarvis (James D'Arcy), and possibly even Dottie (Bridget Regan).
http://www.themarysue.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/SifThor2.jpg
Lady Sif and the Warriors Three
During Thor, we were all introduced to Thor's close friends and allies Lady Sif (Jaimie Alexander), Volstagg (Ray Stevenson), Hogun (Tadanobu Asano), and Fandral (Zachary Levi). They once again all appeared in Thor: The Dark World and then Marvel recruited Lady Sif to TV with an appearance in season 1 of Agents of SHIELD. The appearance was a big hit among fans, with Marvel deciding to bring Lady Sif back in season 2.

We likely won't see any of these characters till Thor: Ragnarok in 2017 so giving them a six to eight episode mini series this winter would be an easy way for more space adventures. The problem with this series would be having good enough special effects to make the adventures and planets these four warriors go on believable.

Bonus- Nova Corps
This is just a bonus because I think there is a small chance this would even be considered for a TV mini series. Just like a Lady Sif and the Warriors Three series, special effects could be a problem for a show that would be based entirely in space. Marvel would also have to have a lengthy talk with the mastermind of the cosmic universe and director of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise in James Gunn.

This series could give more opportunities for Nova Prime and the rest of the Nova Corps to shine and take care of business on smaller space problems. It could also be used to help set up Richard Rider aka Nova, especially since Gunn has not been very open to the idea of including that fan favorite character in his films.

Daredevil Motion Poster
A new motion poster has been released for Daredevil that gives us an up close look at a bloody knuckled and smirking Matthew Murdock (Charlie Cox). Daredevil hits Netflix April 10th.

Chris Hemsworth Talks Age of Ultron, Loki on the Throne

News outlets are starting to get their embargoes lifted from set visits to Marvel's upcoming blockbuster Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Today, Collider released an interview with Thor actor Chris Hemsworth. Here are some of the major points.

When asked about the previous confrontations and fights Thor was in in The Avengers and if we would see more of the same, Hemsworth said, "We’re not as conflicted as we were before, I think.  He tags off with someone else though.  I think we sort of changed up there, and he has a pretty solid battle with… am I allowed to say? Yeah, with Iron Man in this one, which is cool.  It’s a lengthy fight scene of destruction."

Reporters went on to ask him about the fallout of Thor: The Dark World and Loki's presence on the Asgardian throne. Hemsworth said, "Up until kind of the third act or sort of halfway through he begins to have suspicions about what’s going on here or what this bigger picture is here and who’s involved.  He doesn't know by the end of it but he starts to think something’s not right here.  This is all a little too convenient why this has happened, which certainly points his focus back there."

When asked about the threat of Ultron and if large threats have any affect on Thor, Hemsworth said, "I think he openly admits, “I don’t think we’re going to win this one.”  Yeah, the threat is so great that I think all of them are sort of scratching their heads going, “Is this it?” rather than, “Okay, we have to kill this many things.”  It’s just an onslaught and it doesn’t stop.  It’s sort of an open sort of floodgate and what it could also set in motion is an even bigger threat. I think that’s what’s Thor’s kind of stuck on or where he is attention certainly is, an even bigger picture of Thor being from Asgard.  He can just say, “Hang on, there’s a whole universe here which is signaling something else.”

Hemsworth also teased what kind of fighting style Thor would have in Avengers: Age of Ultron saying, “You know, let’s make sure he’s picking up cars and throwing them and ripping things in half and spending a bit more time up in the air and using the elements as opposed to being stuck kind of in a hand-to-hand sort of fist fight with the bad guys.”  So yeah, I think it keeps getting kind of amped up and then the stunts become more elaborate.  Yeah, we see him fly a bit more."

You can read the full interview posted by Collider for more information on the movie.

Agent Carter Season Finale Review

Marvel and ABC decided to bridge the winter break for Agents of SHIELD by debuting a brand new eight episode series following the life of Peggy Carter.

Agent Carter picks up where the events of Captain America: The First Avenger leaves Peggy Carter, working for the SSR.

The first season of Agent Carter came to a close Tuesday night with the premiere of the eighth episode "Valediction."

***** SPOILERS for Season 1 of Agent Carter to follow *****

The season finale of Agent Carter wrapped up the SSR's hunt for Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper) and Peggy Carter's hunt on Leviathan's operation.

After Stark returns to America, he offers his services to the SSR to help them stop Ivchenko (Ralph Brown), also known as Fenhoff, and Dottie's (Bridget Regan) plan to release Stark's anger gas, Midnight Oil, over Times Square.

Ivchenko and Dottie kidnap Stark and use him to finish their plan. Peggy, Jarvis (James D'Arcy), Jack Thompson (Chad Michael Murray), and Daniel Sousa (Enver Gjokaj) go after the two villains to stop the attack.

Following a great duel between Peggy and Dottie that ended with Dottie being kicked through a window and badly injured, Sousa captures Ivchenko and sends him to prison.

One of the final scenes of the season came with just a few minutes left in it between Jarvis and Peggy. James D'Arcy and Hayley Atwell delivered a heartfelt scene that encompassed their relationship on the show. Seeing Jarvis and Peggy's kind and tearful exchange was a great moment from a very good season and finale.

Peggy also got a gift from Jarvis, the last remaining sample of Captain America's blood. Following a previously heartfelt speech by Peggy about moving on, she does what she must do to move on from the death of her former love. Pouring the blood into the river, forever destroying any chance at duplicating the super soldier serum.

The first season of of Agent Carter was by all means a success and it would not be surprising to see Marvel and ABC renew the series for a second season next winter.

Will Peter Parker or Miles Morales Lead New Spider-Man Movie?

When Sony and Marvel first announced that Spider-Man was heading to the MCU exactly 2 weeks ago, the internet and Marvel fan boys and girls exploded with excitement. The thought of Spider-Man sharing the same screen as Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and more got the internet buzzing.

Unfortunately, this means that Spider-Man would be rebooted again, and that means no more Andrew Garfield. A new actor will come on board soon, especially with reports of Spider-Man appearing in Captain America: Civil War.

In the official press release from Marvel, Doug Belgrad, president of Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group, said "Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios share a love for the characters in the Spider-Man universe and have a long, successful history of working together. This new level of collaboration is the perfect way to take Peter Parker's story into the future."

In that quote, Belgrad says that Marvel and Sony will share Peter Parker's story. Not Miles Morales'.

However, there have been lots of rumors that Marvel and Sony could go a different route and give us our first non Peter Parker Spider-Man movie.

These reports escalated when Jeff Sneider said on Meet the Movie Press that he was "95% sure" Spider-Man wouldn't be white. Snieder responded with the following tweets, stating that it is not confirmed but just what he has been hearing.

If Spider-Man is set to appear in Captain America: Civil War then Marvel and Sony will need an actor in the next few months. Check out my list of 5 Possible Spider-Man Actors should Marvel stay with the Peter Parker story.

Agent Carter EP 7
It is hard to believe but the first season of Agent Carter is almost done. This week the seventh episode of the season, "Snafu," debuted and set up what should be an exciting season finale. Read our full review of the episode here.

First Three Daredevil Episodes
We are less than two months away from being able to see what Marvel and show-runner Steven DeKnight have dreamed up for the Netflix original series Daredevil. This week, BBFC revealed run times, directors, and titles for the first three episodes. Episode 1 is titled "Into the Ring" and was directed by Phil Abraham. Abraham also directed episode 2 "Cut Man." Episode 3 is titled "Rabbit in a Snow Storm" and was directed by Adam Kane. Each episode has a run time around 52 minutes, which seems to be the standard for each episode in the series. All 13 episodes of Daredevil hit Netflix on April 10th.
3 Added to Jessica Jones
Marvel's second Netflix original series AKA Jessica Jones has started production and this week three more were added to the cast. Eka Darville, Erin Moriarty, and Wil Travel have all joined the cast in supporting roles. Read more about their roles in the show in our full article.
Absorbing Man Coming to Daredevil?
Marvel has started promoting their first Netflix original series Daredevil and have revealed a connection to a villain introduced in the second season of Agents of SHIELD. The above poster is promoting a fight between Carl Creel (The Absorbing Man) and Matt Murdock's father Jack Murdock. This would be a great way to connect the two shows together and bring Creel into the show. The two shows could also crossover with each other for a truly fantastic connection.

Agents of SHIELD EP 12 Synopsis
Last week Marvel announced that Lady Sif (Jaimie Alexander) would be returning to Agents of SHIELD in episode 12. Today, Marvel revealed the synopsis for the episode.

"Who You Really Are" - Coulson and team come to the aid of a confused Lady Sif, who has lost her memory after fighting with a mysterious warrior whose true mission will send shockwaves through S.H.I.E.L.D. 3 Added to AKA Jessica Jones Cast

Production is underway for Marvel's second Netflix original series AKA Jessica Jones. Over the past few weeks, Marvel has announced the additions of major supporting characters such as David Tennant as Kilgrave, Rachael Taylor as Hellcat, and Carrie Anne-Moss as an unnamed character.

Today, news outlets such as The Hollywood Reporter and Variety are reporting that Marvel has added three more characters to the cast. Marvel has just confirmed the same additions.

Eka Darville, Erin Moriarty, and Wil Travel have been cast as supporting characters for the show.

Eka Darville, who starred in The Originals and Power Rangers R.P.M., will be playing Malcolm, "a neighbor of Jessica’s whose life will cross with the private detective's in a surprising way."

Erin Moriarty, who has been in True Detective and The King's of Summer, will be playing Hope, "a young girl who becomes a client of Alias Investigations, Jessica's business."

Wil Travel, who starred in Red Widow, will be playing "a by-the-book New York Police Department officer." His character's name was not revealed.

Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer/Marvel’s Head of Television said, "All three of these enormously talented actors bring even more layers of depth and nuance to Jessica’s world. Together they help flesh out what is already a phenomenal cast in a series we believe will be truly remarkable."

Agent Carter EP 7 Review

It's hard to believe but Marvel's newest series Agent Carter is almost over. Last night "Snafu," the seventh episode of the series, premiered and set up what should be an exciting and revealing season finale. After the SSR captured Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), they began their questioning to discover the real motive behind Peggy's actions.

***** SPOILERS for "Snafu" to follow *****

After a long investigation led by Agent Sousa (Enver Gjokaj), he and the SSR were able to get Peggy into custody. Sousa, Chief Roger Dooley (Shea Whigham), and Jack Thompson (Chad Michael Murray) each took turns questioning Peggy, but she would not break.

Peggy's questioning came to an end after a surprise visit from Jarvis (James D'Arcy). He handed Dooley a signed confession from Howard Stark, that was actually a fake. Dooley decides to fire Peggy once Stark gets back on US soil.

The SSR turned against Peggy and began seeking advice from Dr. Ivchenko (Ralph Brown) and his "magic" ring. Ivchenko became close to Dooley and influenced him to cooperate with his and Leviathan's plan.

Peggy became aware of Leviathan's plan and confessed everything about what she has been up to for the last few months to Dooley, Sousa, and Thompson.

The episode took a sour turn when Dooley was found in a heat jacket with no way to turn it off. The jacket turned into a bomb once it had achieved a high enough temperature. Dooley sacrificed his life to save the life of his agents.

"Snafu" brought back the Peggy and Jarvis relationship after the two did not share much screen time the past few weeks. The dialogue and witty banter back and forth has been one of the best dynamics of Agent Carter all season. It was also nice to see Enver Gjokaj and Chad Michael Murray share screen time and see a relationship that was very broken at the beginning of the season get closer as the finale approaches.

Bridget Regan also deserves credit for a great performance as her creepy portrayal of Dottie. Getting to see her and Hayley Atwell share screen time next week should be great. Dottie also starred in one of the most memorable stunts of the show during her staircase falling scene.

Check out the trailer for next week's season finale "Valediction!"

10 Most Anticipated Moments in Age of Ultron

As we get closer to the release of Marvel's most anticipated movie yet, Avengers: Age of Ultron is sure to have it's fair share of jaw dropping moments. There have been lots of these moments teased in the trailers so far and I have compiled a list of 10 moments that I'm anticipated the most. Check out the list below!
10. Klaw's Involvement
When Andy Serkis first joined Avengers: Age of Ultron, it was assumed given his background in motion capture that he would use those skills. Instead, Serkis will be playing the famous Black Panther villain Ulysses Klaw. He has been shown briefly in each of the first two trailers but how big of a role he will actually have is not clear. He may simply be an easy way to introduce Wakanda and give Ultron the Vibranium he needs but if the glimpses we have gotten are any indication, his role may be much bigger.
9. Banner's Anger Problems
Thanks to his role in The Avengers, the Hulk became a favorite among fans around the world. His future in the movies has been a hot topic with rumors stating he be in space by the time Avengers: Age of Ultron comes to an end. His fate may be related to his ability to control his anger and not Hulk out. From the footage we've seen of Banner, his ability to control the Hulk is unstable. Seeing how he deals with his anger will be very interesting to watch.
8. The Twins
Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) are some of the newest super powered individuals in the Marvel cinematic universe. They have been used sparingly in marketing in large part to most likely make their screen time that much more enjoyable. The twins will begin by helping Ultron but should switch and join the Avengers before the movie is finished. How their powers will be displayed and utilized make their presence one of my most anticipated moments of the film.

7. Cameos
We know a large majority of the cast and characters that will make appearances in Avengers: Age of Ultron but their are certainly a few that should surprise us. From Black Panther, to Carol Danvers, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, Mantis, SHIELD agents and their director, or even a new Peter Parker, there has been no shortage of rumors on who just might make a cameo. Director Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) seems like the most likely cameo to take place, especially considering Agents of SHIELD is set to tie in to this movie. Other than that, Scott Lang, Hank Pym, or Stephen Strange would be a pleasant surprise and makes this one of my most anticipated moments of the film, should it happen.

6. Civil War Seeds
Following Avengers: Age of Ultron, Marvel will release Ant-Man before delivering what Anthony Mackie called "Avengers 3.8" in Captain America: Civil War. Civil War will feature Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Captain America (Chris Evans) square off about who super powered people, like themselves, should have to answer to. Marvel has been hinting at Civil War for quite some time and should continue that during Avengers: Age of Ultron making it one of our most anticipated moments.

5. Hero vs Hero Fights
One of the best parts of The Avengers was seeing heroes go to head to head. Thor vs Hulk, Iron Man vs Thor, and Black Widow vs a mind controlled Hawkeye were just a few of the battles that we saw. We know of one hero vs hero fight that will get more of a spotlight later on. In the footage we have seen, we know there will be some tension between Thor and Iron Man, but what other fights we could see are a mystery. It seems very likely that we will see Captain America and Iron Man go head to head to preview Captain America: Civil War. Seeing other heroes, both old and new, go head to head will be a very memorable part of the film.

4. Splitting the Team
With Captain America: Civil War on the horizon, there have been plenty of rumors of what side other characters will pick. It is rumored that the current Avengers team will be no more after this movie for various reasons and Captain America will form and lead a brand new team. Seeing who exactly makes that team, where the rest of the current Avengers go, and what this could mean for the future make it a very anticipated moment of the film.
3. Final Ultron Battle
The villainous A.I. Ultron will be the big bad the Avengers have to face in Avengers: Age of Ultron. We've seen the introduction to Ultron in the trailers but the final battle between him and the team should be extremely memorable. Should he get his body coated in Vibranium remains to be seen but from the footage Marvel has shown, Ultron will be an incredibly hard opponent to take down. As he said, "There are no strings on me."
2. Reveal of Vision
Contrary to the amount of promo art that has come out featuring the full life form of JARVIS, his transformation into the Vision has not been shown in footage. Marvel has, to this point, hid Vision (Paul Bettany) in live action and unless they surprise us in the third (last) trailer we won't see him. The reveal of Vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron and what side he starts and finishes on make his reveal one of the most anticipated moments.
1. Hulk vs Hulkbuster
This should not be a surprise to anyone who has been following Avengers: Age of Ultron. Marvel teased the Hulk vs Hulkbuster fight with promo art during their Marvel/75 Years/Pulp to Pop special on ABC and has been the centerpiece of the trailers. Seeing the full fight on the big screen and who may or may not be controlling/manipulating the Hulk will be a great moment in MCU history.

O'Brien and Lerman Eyed for Spider-Man
With Sony and Marvel striking a deal for Spider-Man, they need a new actor to portray Peter Parker. I've made a list of Five Possible Spider-Man Actors that I'd like to see be the next Peter Parker, and it appears that Sony and Marvel agree about two of them. The Hollywood Reporter and Variety are reporting that Dylan O'Brien and my top choice Logan Lerman are being considered for the role.

Samuel L. Jackson's Contract Status
Nick Fury has been the man to hold the Marvel cinematic universe together since his first post credit appearance in Iron Man. He is set to appear in Avengers: Age of Ultron which will mark his sixth movie appearance. This week Samuel L. Jackson told IGN that he only has two more movies left on his contract. He will likely appear in Captain America: Civil War and that would leave one appearance on his current contract. Jackson said he would be up for more should Marvel extend his contract.

Drea de Matteo Joins Agents of SHIELD
Agents of SHIELD has been impressive during the first 10 episodes of its second season and it has beefed up the cast before it returns from the winter break. They've added the likes of Blair Underwood, Luke Mitchell, and Edward James Olmos and now have added one more. Drea de Matteo has also joined the cast as a villain. Drea de Matteo Joins Agents of SHIELD

We are just three weeks away from the return of season 2 of Agents of SHIELD and Marvel is gearing up for a game changing 12 episodes. The show has plenty of questions it needs to answer before the season finale and it has added some new pieces to the cast to help them.

Today, Marvel announced the addition of Drea de Matteo to the cast as the villainous Karla Faye Gideon. She is a gifted woman who will join forces with Quake's (Chloe Bennet) father Mr. Hyde (Kyle MacLachlan) to take on SHIELD.

Matteo joins newcomers such as Edward James Olmos, who will play Robert Gonzalez, and Blair Underwood as Melinda May's (Ming-Na Wen) ex-husband.

“We’re thrilled to have Drea join us as yet another great villain to challenge our cast,” said Executive Producer and Marvel’s Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. “We relished the opportunity to work with her in such a menacing role.”
