Marvel Weekly News #14

This was a relatively slow week for Marvel. This will be one of the shorter posts so far. This week's news dealt with a fan favorite speaking out on her willingness to play Captain Marvel, new footage for Agent Carter, Gwyneth Paltrow on her role in Captain America: Civil War, whether or not we will see Nova in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and another possible addition to the cast of Captain America: Civil War.

Emily Blunt Up For Captain Marvel
Emily Blunt has been doing press tours for her upcoming movie Into the Woods. In an interview with ScreenCrush this week, they asked Blunt about her desire to play Captain Marvel in the future movie. Blunt has been a popular fan choice for the role and even she wants to play the part. Blunt said, "If it’s an awesome part, it doesn't matter if it’s a Marvel movie or a tiny movie, I’d be up for it." She went on to say that she has not received any calls for the part so we will just have to wait and see.

New Agent Carter Footage
We are just over a month away from the premiere of Marvel's new television series Agent Carter. Marvel is starting to release more clips to see Peggy Carter in action. Check out the two clips below.
Gwyneth Paltrow Wants Civil War Role
Gwyneth Paltrow has been with Marvel since the very beginning. She has been in Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3, and Avengers. As you can see, she has been in every movie that Robert Downey Jr. has been in. It's unknown if she will be in Avengers: Age of Ultron but it's likely she will be in some capacity. It's hard to picture Tony Stark without Pepper Potts, which brings us to Paltrow's desire to be along side Downey again in Captain America: Civil War. She spoke to DishNation this week about the possibility and said, "My fingers are crossed. I would love to be Pepper Potts again at some point in my life."

No Nova in Guardians 2
The once risky property of Guardians of the Galaxy has turned into a huge hit, thanks in part to director James Gunn. Gunn is now working hard on the sequel and has spoken about his desire for more characters in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. One character that everyone wants to see in the movie is Nova. Unfortunately for Nova and fans of the character, he will not be appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Gunn took to Facebook to confirm this as he responded to a fan question. Gunn said that Nova does not currently serve a purpose to the story, right now.

Maria Hill Could Appear in Civil War
As I was writing this, another rumor popped up saying that Cobie Smulders could return as Maria Hill in Captain America: Civil War. The rumor comes from Spanish sites elmulticine and Cinemax. They both claim that Smulders will in fact return as Maria Hill for the epic Civil War storyline.

Beta Ray Bill in Guardians?
Guardians of the Galaxy is nearing its release on Blu-Ray and DVD and James Gunn is making the press rounds to talk once again about the film. In an interview with Collider, Gunn was asked about whether or not the image on the left is Beta Ray Bill in The Collector's warehouse. Unfortunately for fans, Gunn confirmed that it is definitely not Beta Ray Bill.

Evangeline Lilly wraps up Ant-Man
Ant-Man is nearing the end of filming. Last week we learned that Michael Douglas has finished filming his part for the movie. While doing press for her new book, Lilly confirmed that she has also finished filming her scenes.

Agents of SHIELD Season 2 EP 8
Season 2 is nearing its winter break for Agents of SHIELD. Episode 8 debuted this week and continued the strong output for the season. You can read our full review of the episode here.

Mystery Alien Origin
During the first season of Agents of SHIELD, we learned that the GH325 serum was a product of a mysterious blue alien. During an interview this week with TV Guide, Executive Producer Jeffrey Bell revealed what race the alien was. We will learn more about the alien in two weeks on Agents of SHIELD but for now, if you want to know the origin, keep reading.

Still reading? Well the alien has been confirmed to be of Kree alien!

Agents of SHIELD Season 2 EP 8 Review

Last week Agents of SHIELD delivered what was possibly the shows best episode ever. Knowing Marvel, we should have expected greatness from "The Things We Bury," and that's what we got.

***** SPOILERS for "The Things We Bury" to follow *****

While Grant Ward sets out to find and terrorize his older brother Senator Christian Ward (Tim DeKay), Coulson and his team hunt down the mysterious city with HYDRA closing in on the trail.

It initially seems like the Ward brother duel is simply a way to flesh out Grant's past and how he became the man he is today, it leads to something much more. After Grant burns down his old home, with Christian and his parents inside, he decides to team up with Whitehall and Skye's dad. His motive behind joining the evil duo is not apparent so far, but it won't be surprising if it's a chance at redemption.

Meanwhile, Coulson, Fitz, and Triplett break into an Australian base to track down the mystery city. Things go south as HYDRA has beat them to the place and shoots Trip in the shoulder. Luckily for Trip, a doctor comes to the rescue. Just not a doctor they can trust.

One of the most interesting aspects of the episode and possibly of the season were the multiple flashbacks to give us backstory on Dr. Whitehall. A devote follower of the Red Skull led Whitehall, formerly known as Rinehart, into the custody of Agent Carter and SHIELD.

A much older Whitehall was broken out of prison under the orders of Alexander Pierce to meet a familiar face from his past. That familiar face turns out to be Skye's mom, who Whitehall met years ago when experimenting with the Diviner. He killed her and used some of her body parts to permanently regain his younger form.

We do not see much from May, Simmons, or Mack but do get plenty of Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter dialogue and more. Morse interrogates Bakshi to a near death, fights with Hunter about their trust issues, and ultimately make up, make out, and more.

Agents of SHIELD will now be on a two week hiatus before the team searches high and low for the mystery city. Check out the promo below for "... Ye Who Enter Here."

Marvel Weekly News #12

This week's Marvel news was not near as big as the past few weeks. We got news that one of the Ant-Man cast members have finished filming, a new episode of Agents of SHIELD that answered a few questions, and a new villain in Captain America: Civil War and possibly Doctor Strange.

Michael Douglas Done Filming
Michael Douglas, who is playing Hank Pym, revealed on his Facebook page that he has finished filming his part in Ant-ManAnt-Man began filming in August which means Douglas filmed his entire part in around three months. It is possible he might have to come back to do some re-shoots but for now it looks like Michael Douglas is done filming.

Agents of SHIELD EP 7
"The Writing on the Wall" premiered this past Tuesday and it was arguably the best episode yet. The episode got us closer to the answer of what the mysterious markings are. Read our full review of the episode here.

Villain Cast in Civil War and Doctor Strange
The last bit of news this week was Marvel announcing that Daniel Bruhl has been cast in Captain America: Civil War. They did not reveal his role but other news outlets have gotten bits and pieces. Deadline revealed that Bruhl will playing a villain in film. Variety reported that Bruhl's character will not be the main villain in Captain America: Civil War but that he could potentially be the main villain in Doctor Strange

Agents of SHIELD Season 2 EP 7 Review

Season 2 has been drastically different than season 1 of Agents of SHIELD. It not only moved back an hour, but also has added a gritty tone, added new cast members, and turned one of the fan favorite characters into a villain. All these changes have benefited the show greatly.

***** SPOILERS for "The Writing on the Wall" to follow *****

In this week's episode "The Writing on the Wall," Coulson and Skye hunt down a crazy killer connected to Coulson's past while the rest of the team tracks down Grant Ward.

Coulson's journey since he died in Avengers has been a wild ride but as Agents of SHIELD progresses, we are getting closer and closer to discovering the permanent effects the GH325 serum will have. In this episode, Coulson goes back into the memory machine to uncover who else might have been injected.

We find out that before the TAHITI Project was shut down, Coulson experimented with the alien DNA, which is over 1,000 years old, on 6 volunteers. When Coulson chases down one of the lone members of the program still alive, he gets into a situation that proves to be painful but worth the pain.

During the fight with the Sebastian Derrick, they both realize what the markings finally are. It's a city. Now the team will look for the mystery city and see what awaits them there.

As Coulson discovered the meaning behind the markings, Grant Ward delivered Dr. Whitehall's right hand man Bakshi to his former team. Now, a clean shaven Ward is on a mission to track down his brother.

"The Writing on the Wall" continued strong elements that season 2 of Agents of SHIELD has been demonstrating. This episode gave each character a direct purpose and did a great job balancing who got screen time. All the characters felt necessary to the story at hand and the continued bromance between Mack and Fitz is excellent.

Agents of SHIELD returns next week at 9 pm EST on ABC for episode 8 of season 2 "The Things We Bury." Watch the preview for next week's episode below as the team comes face to face with HYDRA.

Marvel Weekly News #11

It would have been hard for Marvel to match the amount of news that they gave us last week, but they did give us lots of news. Most of the news in this week's news revolves around the lovely Peggy Carter. There is also some news on other cameos in Avengers: Age of Ultron as well as an actress who wants the role of Captain Marvel. As a note, some of the news below could be considered as SPOILERS, so read with caution.

Heimdall and Loki in Age of Ultron
Idris Elba had an interview with Telegraph this past week and let a secret slip. He revealed that he has filmed a scene for Avengers: Age of Ultron with Tom Hiddleston. There are a few possibilities as to what scene they could be in. One possibility would be in a vision Thor sees provided by Scarlet Witch. Another possibility could be a post credit scene that sees Thor return to Asgard and set up Thor: Ragnarok.

Peggy Carter in Ant-Man
Project Casting is a business that posts casting calls for movies. This week, they posted a casting call for Ant-Man that asked for a stand in for Hayley Atwell! We already know that John Slattery is returning as Howard Stark in what is likely a flashback scene, so it is possible that Atwell will be joining that scene. It would also be cool to see a young Hank Pym interact with both of them.

Katheryn Winnick wants Captain Marvel
Ever since Marvel announced Captain Marvel, fans have been looking for potential women to take up the role. A popular choice has been the star of Vikings, Katheryn Winnick. One fan has even made some impressive fan art that Katheryn has noticed. She posted the photo on the left with the following caption, "Thank you for the amazing #fanart and all the love. Got the greatest and most loyal fans out there! #blessed #grateful #captainmarvel #marvel" Seems like she is not against the role!

Marvel 75 Show
Marvel took a break from the regular Agents of SHIELD schedule to give us a look back at the last 75 years of Marvel, as well as a look into the future. The program covered Marvel's rise to becoming a media giant. If you did not get a chance to watch it, you can watch it online. It's hard to imagine that Marvel would not include the special with the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy release date. Marvel showed some behind the scene looks at Ant-Man and Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Agent Carter Footage
The look into the future Marvel promised was a few minutes of footage from Agent Carter. You can watch the clip in its entirety below.
Agent Carter Release Date
Along with the footage, Marvel also gave us the official start date for Agent Carter. We will see Hayley Atwell return as Peggy Carter on January 6th, 2015! With Agent Carter taking the place of Agents of SHIELD, you may be wondering when the second season will continue. Thankfully, Marvel also revealed that Agents of SHIELD will return from its winter break on March 3rd!

Two Added to Agent Carter Cast
Even with our first look at Agent Carter as well as the official release date, Marvel still had more announcements. They announced that Costa Ronin and Bridget Regan have been added to the cast. Bridget Regan will play one of Peggy's neighbors named Dottie. Costa Ronin has been cast in a role that is not new to the Marvel universe. Ronin will play Anton Vanko, the father of Ivan Vanko (Whiplash) and the man who helped Howard Stark develop the arc reactor technology. It will be interesting to see how that relationship plays out in the show.

Yellowjacket Suit
The last bit of news this week is another possible leak. A twitter account got a hold of what could be our first look at the Yellowjacket suit that Corey Stoll will wear in Ant-Man. The suit has not been confirmed by Marvel and is certainly not a classical take on the Yellowjacket suit, but does share it's similarities to the Ant-Man suit.
