Marvel Weekly News #10

Would you look at that, we have hit double digits! Welcome to the 10th edition of Marvel Weekly News. This was a crazy week for Marvel filled with tons of news. This week's news was not small by any means either. I won't keep any of you waiting any longer!

Cumberbatch in Final Talks for Strange
After striking out on casting Joaquin Phoenix as Doctor Strange, Marvel cast a wide net to find the Supreme Sorcerer. They looked at around 12 actors for the role, and this week it looks like they have narrowed in on one. Marvel is reportedly in final talks with fan favorite actor Benedict Cumberbatch for the coveted role! When would we see Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange? Keep reading to find out!

Altered Avengers Team
Media around the world have had part of their embargos lifted by Marvel this week. That led to many interesting quotes by Feige, Ruffalo, Downey, and more. One that really stood out was Feige saying that the Avengers team will be "altered" by the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron. We have heard previous reports that Captain America could form his own team as a result of Ultron, so that could match up with this altered Avengers team. It could also mean simply the additions of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, or maybe even a death.

Official Agent Carter Synopsis
Marvel could not let the big screen movies get all the attention this week. They released the first official Agent Carter synopsis. The synopsis is- "Years before Agent Coulson and his SHIELD team swore to protect those who cannot protect themselves from threats they cannot conceive, there was Agent Peggy Carter, who pledged the same oath but lived in a different time when women weren't recognized as being as smart or as tough as their male counterparts. But no one should ever underestimate Peggy. It's 1946 and peace has dealt Peggy a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy finds herself stuck doing administrative work when she would rather be back out in the field; putting her vast skills into play and taking down the bad guys.  But she is also trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life, Steve Rogers – aka Captain America. When old acquaintance Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper) finds himself being framed for unleashing his deadliest weapons to anyone willing to pony up the cash, he contacts Peggy - the only person he can trust - to track down those responsible, dispose of the weapons and clear his name.  He empowers his butler, Edwin Jarvis (James D'Arcy), to be at her beck and call when needed to help assist her as she investigates and tracks down those responsible for releasing these weapons of mass destruction.  But Jarvis, who is a creature of habit and sticks to a rigid daily routine, is going to have to make some major life changes if he’s going to be able to keep up with Peggy. If caught going on these secret missions for Stark, Peggy could be targeted as a traitor and spend the rest of her days in prison – or worse. And as she delves deeper into her investigation, she may find that those she works for are not who they seem, and she might even begin to question whether Stark is as innocent as he claims."

Phase 3 Lineup Revealed
Last week we found out that Marvel was going to hold a special event. Well on Tuesday, we found out what they were going to announce and they did not disappoint. Marvel gave us official titles, title cards, and release dates for their entire Phase 3 lineup! Phase 3 will kick off with Captain America: Civil War on May 5, 2016. The other Phase 3 films are Doctor Strange (11/4/2016), Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (5/5/2017), Thor: Ragnarok (7/28/2017), Black Panther (11/3/2017), Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 (5/4/2018), Captain Marvel (7/6/2018),  Inhumans (11/2/2018), Avengers: Infinity War Part 2 (5/3/2019). Phase 3 looks like it will shake up and expand the Marvel universe even more. Check out our full breakdown of the Phase 3 lineup here, as well as how Civil War should not have been a surprise.

Ant-Man Part of Phase 2
At the special Marvel event, Feige answered some questions from the media that were present. During the event, he revealed that Ant-Man is part of Phase 2 and not the start of Phase 3 like many of us thought. This is a welcomed change because it would be tough for Ant-Man to lead a phase but seems like a better option to end one.

5 Picture Deal for Boseman
Along with the entire Phase 3 lineup, Marvel also revealed that Chadwick Boseman had signed on to be T'Challa, the Black Panther. It was quickly revealed Deadline that he signed a "lucrative" 5 picture deal. He will appear in Captain America: Civil War and Black Panther, as well as likely appearing in either one or both part of Avengers: Infinity War.

Agents of SHIELD EP 6
With all the excitement on the movies, Agents of SHIELD episode 6 might have gone unnoticed to the public. Thankfully, Marvel also planned to give us an extended trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron. Check out our review for this week's episode and check out the extended trailer below!
LL Cool J in a Marvel Movie?
After Marvel's announcement for their big plans, fans started thinking who could be playing who in the future movies. Not only have fans chimed in, an actor sent out some interesting tweets too. LL Cool J tweeted "I'm so ready for this role in a Marvel movie." He later reiterated that it is a movie role saying "It's a movie." Could he be a young T'Chaka in a flashback scene or could it be a role for a non-Marvel Studios movie? Only time will tell.

Loki to Appear Heavily in Phase 3
When Marvel announced Thor: Ragnarok, it did not take long for them to confirm that fan favorite villain Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston, will return in the third installment of the Thor series. When Hiddleston first joined the Marvel family he signed the standard 6 picture deal. Loki has already appeared in Thor, Avengers, and Thor: The Dark World which fulfills half of his contract. Thor: Ragnarok will be his fourth movie, so what about those final two movies? Well according to a new report by Digital Spy, Loki will be "heavily" featured in not only Thor: Ragnarok, but also Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Avengers: Infinity War Part 2. Not only will Loki have to deal with the wrath of his brother when he finds out about whatever has happened to Odin, he will also have to deal with Thanos, likely giving up the Infinity Gauntlet or promising to help him again to save his life.
