Today Variety reported some very shocking news to Marvel fans. Edgar Wright and Marvel have decided to part ways. According to Variety, Marvel has already found a new director for the film and it will still launch on July 17, 2015.
For those of you that may not know, Edgar Wright has been pushing for Marvel to make an Ant-Man movie for about a decade, dating back to 2006. He had been the driving force to get Ant-Man on the big screen and it is very surprising he is no longer part of the project, especially since he was the writer and director.
Marvel and Wright decided to part ways "due to differences in their version of the film", according to the report by Variety. The film was described earlier on as a heist movie, and whether that is still the case remains to be seen.
While the movie is still going to happen according to Marvel, just how true that is should be in serious question. Kevin Feige and Marvel have stated in the past that Edgar Wright's vision for the character and movie was the only reason they decided to green light the project. With him no longer attached, Marvel may not have enough support within or belief in the project itself to continue on.
